Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. The one thing that concerns me about the Plaquenil is the half life is about 50 days. So, after even just a couple weeks on it.would take you many months for it to leave your system. Also, you should get a baseline eye test before or shortly after starting the Plaquenil. And, then yearly exams after that to check for Retinopathy. Anyone know of any issues with these two being taken together? P was prescribed by rheumatologist to help with the RA/Lupus like issues. L was just prescribed over the phone earlier this week for migraine prevention after the Topomax side effects were too much. Plaquenil is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria due to P. falciparum, P. malariae, P. ovale, and P. vivax. Plaquenil is indicated for the prophylaxis of malaria in geographic areas where chloroquine resistance is not reported. Limitations of Use in Malaria • Plaquenil is not recommended for the treatment of complicated malaria.

Will my medication affect the results of my skin test. Yes, several medications can affect skin testing responses. An allergist will always do a positive and a negative skin test control, which helps to determine if a medication that would interfere with the allergic response has inadvertently been taken. Antihistamines are the drugs most commonly associated with suppression of the skin test response.
