The best way to taper off plaquenil

I've been on plaquenil for 6 months for suspected Sjogren's syndrome (I don't have antibodies for Sjorgren's or Lupus but I do have Hashimoto's and have all the symptoms for Sjorgren's so the rheumatologist suggested a trial of plaquenil). Basically I've been on the drug since January and saw the rheumatologist on Wednesday to see how things are going.

EJ, I cannot contribute much, but just to say that I am currently taking Plaquenil at one end of the day and Minocycline at the other; and in my understanding of the many posts I’ve reviewed here – it is not unheard of to continue both and wean off the Plaquenil as the benefits from the AP take hold. For lupus erythematosus, one or two tablets are usually taken once or twice daily. For rheumatoid arthritis, one to three tablets are usually taken once a day. Hydroxychloroquine can be taken with a glass of milk or a meal to decrease nausea. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Even then I had to ease my way off of it very slowly, and then I also had to start new medications and treatments to deal with the increased pain and fatigue which worsened after I went off it. Happily, going off plaquenil quelled the worst of my psoriasis, so the overall trade-off was eventually worth it for me.

I do think it's helped with fatigue and muscle pain but it's hard for me to compare to Xmas as when the improvement is so gradual I think it's really hard to notice on a gradual basis. I *think* I'm improving but it's been a gradual process and I said to him that it's quite hard to tell how much of an improvement I'm feeling.

  7. May 15, 2015 I am not taking Plaquenil at present but ages ago, when I used to take it, my rheumataologist told me to stop it for a month or two every year. He said there was no reason to taper off it. Just stop. He did advise to taper on to it though so that the body adjusts to it slowly.

So I ran out of my plaquenil and the Rheum. that prescribed it I am no longer seeing and wont re-fill it and I dont see my new Rheum. until Decemeber 23rd. I am nervous to see what will happen. The pharmacist said there wont be any danger just stopping it. Im just nervous to see what my body will do. Has anyone gone off the plaquenil and what happened? I hear my new Rheum. is all for it so I. So that's the update. The lesson here is - for those who need to go off plaquenil, be careful about just going off it cold turkey. Obviously some of CAN do that, but if you don't know if you're one of them - better to be on the safe side and wean slowly. Take it from me! I am feeling much better after bumping my dose back up over the last few. Hi everybody! I recently went to the doc and he recommended that I try cutting my Plaquenil in half from 400mg to 200mg/day. I have been on it since March, 2002. It's been about a week and I have noticed a few slight changes, mainly a little stiffness in my fingers and feeling a little fatigued. I don't know

Plaquenil Side Effects Go Away? DailyStrength This can be a normal side effect from the plaquenil and it usually lasts a couple of weeks until your body adjusts to it. Try to stick it out, continue taking the compazine but know that that med itself causes drowsiness. You may want to ask for Zofran which doesnt make you as you take it before bed.
