    How to taper off hydroxychloroquine

I did stop it for 2 weeks early in the treatment due to having to take a coupld other drugs that seemed to give me side effects. I just quit the plaquenil to give my liver a rest at that time. Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect.

Occasionally, tapering on an every-other-day basis may be useful. For example, instead of tapering from 4 milligrams to 3 milligrams of prednisone, a doctor may prescribe taking 4 milligrams one day and 3 milligrams the next day, and alternating back and forth for one week also known as an alternate-day taper. Have been on methotrexate 20mg 8/@2.5mg for about a year and 1/2. Recently moved and have a new Rheumatoligist who did his own blood test and x-rays, according to him he cannot find the blood factor or damage to any joints to prove that I have RA. I would like to know can I stop taking methotrexate or do I have to ween off of it slowly? Or should I even be thinking of stopping the meds? I. You can stop both meds abruptly if that is what you want - there is no need to wean. You should talk to your doctor first though. It is likely you will experience some form of pain and weaning at least your nabumetone may help to deal with this.

Over the years on this site we have had quite a few people post that they didn't think that the plaquenil was working so they would stop taking it. I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect.

  4. Hi everybody! I recently went to the doc and he recommended that I try cutting my Plaquenil in half from 400mg to 200mg/day. I have been on it since March, 2002. It's been about a week and I have noticed a few slight changes, mainly a little stiffness in my fingers and feeling a little fatigued.

I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way. Prednisone Tapering Schedules. A prednisone tapering schedule will depend on the unique medical condition of the patient and how long they have been taking prednisone before attempting to taper off. Here is a 12-day taper schedule for high dose prednisone from a dermatologists office With 10 mg tablets Day 1 take 6 tablets Day 2 take 6 tablets Mar 18, 2011 My rheumy told me if I had any visual changes to stop taking it immediately, that the damage is reversible early on but can become permanent. I don't know about if you have to wean off it but I have missed a dose here and there without ill effects and you are only talking about 2 days.

Chloroquine C18H26ClN3 - PubChem Chloroquine is a 4-aminoquinoline with antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, and potential chemosensitization and radiosensitization activities. Although the mechanism is not well understood, chloroquine is shown to inhibit the parasitic enzyme heme polymerase that converts the toxic heme into non-toxic hemazoin, thereby resulting in the accumulation of toxic heme within the parasite.
