Plaquenil Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus & others. It will help with mild/moderate joint pain, but is usually given with other drugs for better pain relief. It works well on the more systemic side effects of RA e.g. pericarditis, pleuritis, fevers, etc. which is why Plaq is also used with lupus patients. Jan 08, 2020 For Lupus patients on Plaquenil they should have their eyes examined annually by an Opthalmologist who specializes in seeing patients on Plaquenil for the first 5 years on the medication then every 6 months after they've been on the medication for more than 5 years.

Thanks, Ashley Hi Ashley, I have been on plaquinel for 2 years now and feel like it has been the best thing for me. What does the Plaquinel do to the symptoms and progression of Sjogrens?

In a recent preliminary report, 21 colchicine was tested as the initial treatment for the first episode of acute pericarditis in order to prevent recurrences. This unblinded, randomised trial involved 60 patients who received either 800 mg/6–8 hours of aspirin for 7–10 days with gradual tapering over 2–3 weeks.
